A Tribute to Caleb Pirtle III

A master storyteller and grand, most extraordinary person!

My deepest sympathy is extended to Caleb’s wife, Linda, and family for their loss.

I’m a writer. I love using words and telling stories. However, when I first read one of Caleb Pirtle’s books, I stood back in awe. From that point forward, Caleb was my inspiration. He took using words and telling stories to the next level. No! Not the next level, he took storytelling to the master level.

I expressed some of my feelings in a review I wrote for LOVELY NIGHT TO DIE: THE QUIET ASSASSIN.

“Crisp, tight dialogue and text. No words wasted. It’s exactly what’s needed to maintain a constant state of tension throughout…Perfectly worded prose garnishes the in-between spaces, the times when the action pauses briefly. The pauses are short, but they reveal a snapshot of what’s needed to effortlessly bring the reader into a scene.”

Caleb wrote, “The falling snow reached out and swallowed him as if he were only a ragged image on a frame of black and white film.”

But Caleb wasn’t only a brilliant, extraordinary writer, he was the nicest, most encouraging person you could want to meet! Unfortunately, I never met Caleb in person, but his messages came through loud and clear. His heart was wide open and ready to cheer me on. I took great comfort in those messages. When I got a one star review for a book I wrote, I’d try to remember Caleb’s support. It really helped me get through the dark times, those times when I felt I wasn’t up to par.

I’ll always be grateful when I think about Caleb’s presence in my life. He didn’t just help me believe in my writing, he helped me believe in myself. I’m missing him terribly, but I keep telling myself he’s now a heavenly angel instead of an earthly one.

Thank you, dearest Caleb, for being there for so many of us. You were and still are a blessing and a gift.
