Description:
Paxton of Wychchester was a leader of men, a conqueror who knew more of war than love. He commanded the chatelaine Dominique DeBar’s surrender, taking first her lush holdings and then her vulnerable virgin’s body. But in the sweet ecstasy of their union lay an unexpected twist. Which of them had been seduced, and which truly conquered?

My Review:“Sweet Enchantress is a book to be savored!”

Parris Afton Bonds is a master when it comes to writing historical fiction! And her novel, “Sweet Enchantress,” is a book to be savored for its ability to take hold of the reader! First of all, her vivid descriptions transported me back in time, into those medieval ages that were so dark and oppressive. I was quickly caught up in the binding rules and regulations of the period. They were rigid and unmerciful, especially for women. But the heroine in this novel isn’t an ordinary woman. Unlike many, Countess Dominique’s educated background included familiarity with the healing arts and a well-developed sense of self. Unfortunately, such gifts were not welcomed by the church or those in charge. When a man named Paxton takes over Dominique’s lands, she must decide how to proceed. When Paxton tries to humiliate her into submission, her choices are few, but she isn’t the type to simply give into her circumstances. The interaction between Paxton and Dominique is portrayed in a way that’s believable and complex. The author has thoughtfully and beautifully depicted not only the different sides of love and hate, but how both can be part of a dynamic relationship. Highly recommended! Five Stars Five Stars!

  • Thank you so very much for the positive comments, Sandy. Publishers have done studies (among them, Harlequin) that show it is easier to rant than to rave, which therefore says a lot about your positive approach to life.

So sorry, I didn’t see your comment until today, Parris! Thank you so much for your thoughts about the review. When I wrote it, I was so amazed at how beautifully you portray the historical setting and the world the characters occupy. And your characters come to life in a way that makes the reader feel what they’re feeling. You’re a master at what you do!
