Ivy Logan Interview
Profile
Ivy logan has a lifetime of stories in her head. She has always loved reading and watching movies. She sees stories in everything and in everyone. She was already a storyteller before she actually sat down and decided to become one.
An MBA and an HR professional, she spent years surrounded by creative people making her all the more convinced that writing is what she was meant to do.
She lives in Mumbai, India with her husband, Ian and their two children. She spends her time reading and writing, when she is not watching her favourite shows on Netflix.

How did you start writing?
I always had a love for stories whether books or movies, since I was a little girl. Somewhere along the way, I started telling stories first to my classmates and much later to my young children.
But it was my husband who encouraged me to start writing.
What motivates you to write?
Writing, the activities involved with writing – networking with other writers, editing, thinking of ways to promote my books, ways to help other writers, have become an integral part of my personality and my life. I can’t imagine myself not writing. Because writing is now linked to my growth as a person.
What’s most rewarding about writing?
I never realized this but I have an affinity for words. I write better than I talk. Seeing my words on paper, seeing a story unfold, and when other people appreciate my writing that’s what makes it rewarding.
What’s you favourite genre and why?
My favourite genre to read is thrillers. I love them. I’m friends with quite a few writers from that genre because I really admire the stories they have to tell. But after I started writing fantasy my appreciation for it as a genre has really grown. I read a lot of fantasy books too. Another genre I really enjoy is time travel romance and regency romance.
Where do your characters come from?
My characters grow organically in the context of the story of course. But they often are an extension of my values. Hence, attributes like love for family, vulnerability, and being stronger than they realize are a common thread in all of my characters.
Who is an author who inspires you and why?
The authors I really admire are Frances Hodgson Burnett, Cornelia Funke, and J.K. Rowling. I can credit the three of them with inspiring me to write fantasy. Sara Crewe a character created by Burnett, Jacob Reckless by Funke, and of course Harry Potter have stayed with me, through the years. These characters were not perfect, they had their faults and weaknesses, but they were all determined to try their best in a harsh world. That’s what I write about in my books.
What do you look for in other people’s books?
I look for a piece of their hearts, really. The book is an extension of the author’s life experiences, their imagination, their values and that’s what I look for. I also look for a story that engages me and draws me in. I look for beautiful, well expressed dialogues and twists that will keep me guessing. I look at the angst behind the characters, what makes them tick, and not just the superficial aspects.
What are you writing now?
I’m in the process of completing my Fantasy series, The Breach Chronicles. It is a series like no other. It’s not one continuous story broken into three books but rather follows the lives of characters from two different times in Books I and II, but then everything comes together in book III. There are connections that you could never see while reading Books I and II and the prequel.
People have told me that I am taking a huge risk writing a series like this but to tell you the truth I’m a person who follows my heart and the story. These were the stories waiting to be told so I breathed life into them.
The Breach Chronicles (Series)
Origins – The Legend of Ava (Prequel)
Broken – Book I
Metamorphosis –Book II (scheduled for a June end release)
Redemption – Book III (scheduled for a July -September release)
What kind of book would you like to be known for?
I would like to be known as an author who writes books that appeal to anyone whatever the age group. A book that has characters that the reader feels drawn to and invested in. A book that could inspire light and love and also tears.
What has writing taught you about yourself?
Writing has taught me that I’m a person who cares. I care about my characters, I care about my readers, and I care about my fellow writers. And obviously, I care about my family. Writing has made me more confident about my feelings and the things I feel strongly about. I’m now voracious in my support of issues and people I believe in. I stand by them no matter what. It’s not about what’s in it for me.
